Tilly finally made her long-haul debut, as we left central Ohio and headed North to the Great Lakes.

That's right, we're in our Yooper era. From Granville to Manistee (7 hr) on up to Munising (5 hr) for a stay at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
We go to Manistee every year for a big family reunion, and this year was no exception! Kicking off the road trip with the fam was most excellent. Pickle ball, cideries, Skyjo and much more!
Stop 1: Manistee and Lake Michigan
Stop 2: Pictured Rocks and Lake Superior
After a family-fun-filled week, we packed up Tilly and traveled North to Pictured Rocks. Ellie stuck with us for this portion, yay! First we hit the beach (Au Train), a dog-friendly beach on the National Lakeshore. After a refreshing dip in Lake Superior, we drove into town. Munising is small, but packed with delicious eateries. We got dinner from Pictured Rocks Pizza and ate it on our patio at the hotel overlooking Lake Superior.
The next morning we hiked to Miner's Falls, and cooled off afterwards at Miner's beach (which Ellie claims to be the "most beautiful beach" she's ever been to, and yes that includes Croatia)! For late lunch we hit up Driftwood Deli, an exceptional spot for creative sandwiches.
Our third and final day, we boarded the Pictured Rocks Express and traveled 30 miles out to the remote and beautiful Pictured Rocks. It sure lived up to its name; the Caribbean blue water and mineral-striped rocks were mind-bogglingly picturesque.
After the boat ride, we decided to give the famous Michigan Pasties a try. They're basically giant empanadas filled with all kinds of goodies! Potatoes, meat, veggies...we even tried dessert pasties!
Overall, our journey is off to a great start and we can't wait to see what's next. Stay tuned and check in next week for a recap of South Dakota and Nebraska!
